Didn’t expect my last post to have such an overwhelming response! I cleaned it up a little and made it available to download as a widescreen wallpaper. Just click the Download link on the page below. Thanks, everyone!
“That lady is my hero.” Lin Beifong. Bad-ass to the end. (Or is it the end?)
Episode 10 was an amazing ride. One scene I’m laughing, and then I’m tearbending by the next. And then that goes on repeatedly for the rest of the episode. And that last scene!
OMG spoiler guy voiced by spoiler spoiler!!
The season finale is going to be A DOOZY!!!
Also: Mako is a douchebender. And still not convinced Amon’s “bendtaking” is permanent.
Legend of Korra’s Bad-ass Scene of the Week: Punching ice shards with your bare fists! Comparable to punching big robots in the face with your bladed gauntlets.
Thinking of doing this for every episode…
I intended them to be younger when I drew this. That’s why Lin didn’t have a scar on the original post. And then it suddenly hits me that the image would be more powerful with this addition.

Excellent Tenzin x Lin Beifong art by a friend of mine, @becauseedric. Nice! :D

It feels good to paint again, albeit digitally. Really enjoying digital painting. This time, I’m using Paint Tool SAI to put the colors in. Previously, I had used Photoshop to paint the elements, but Paint Tool SAI feels more natural, and is easier to blend colors with. It’s more lightweight, too. I just have to be more familiar with it’s user interface and shortcuts. I’m also planning to try other programs for digital painting, preferably low-cost (free?) and lightweight like SAI. Any suggestions?
Fire Ferrets update! Painting digitally for the first time. Just got the elements down and I’m already learning a lot.

Have you seen the Legend of Korra premiere on Nickelodeon today? Watched it a couple of hours ago on a livestream by Korralations on Ustream. 2 Episodes, back-to-back! Way to start the series!
(Note: Didn’t watch it today for the first time though; I have watched the 900MB 720p file of the 2-episode premiere about a month ago. Just wanted to see it again, with ads and all. Plus, fanboying together with a few members of the fandom is cool, too.)
Mako looks like he’s dancing here. Fixed that while I was inking on this one. Will upload the inked version soon.
HOLD THE PHONE. STOP THE PRESSES. FRESH AND JUICY.
This is a post about the Tumblr A:TLA Annotated (atla-annotated.tumblr.com) and Avatar: The Last Airbender (and Legend of Korra) in general.
I learned in art school that, in a painting, every and any detail could mean something. (And with that meaning comes value? Something like that…) Turns out, as this blog points out, Avatar: The Last Airbender (and by extension, Legend of Korra) works the same way. Everything means something, or is referenced from something.
How clothes are folded on a person, the architectural details of each nation, the feet of the table in Uncle Iroh’s tea shop, the characters on the wall of the Beifong residence, the number of pillars in the Fire Nation Palace Throne Room, even the kind of food Sokka eats. Avatar = Dalai Lama? Air Nomads = Tibet? Republic City = Shanghai + Hongkong? That’s just scratching the surface!
My respect for this series and its creators has gone through the roof (and to the mooon!). What a masterpiece.
The blog also shows how much of an asshole M. Night Shyamalan really is. (It’s worse than any of us thought.)
Chinese characters? Nope. Meaningless scribbles.
Fire Nation? Remove all Chinese references, replace with Roman references, make them more advanced, more badass but less villainous, and then cast as INDIANS. And then, remove all Dalai Lama references on the Avatar, and then blame the Avatar for the war itself.
The squalor Southern Water Tribe? Cast as Inuit.
The affluent Northern Water Tribe? Cast as white people.
I will never forgive M. Night Shyamalan for this. All that meaning and value from the series, gone.
Anyway, check out A:TLA Annotated! (Photo from the blog)

And of course, Toph had a bad-ass daughter. Who do you think is Lin Beifong’s father?
