Throwback Thursday
Poster paint on 1/8 Illustration board , April 2007. Took me about 3 days.
This painting is based on Rivermaya’s song “Imposible”, particularly the version from Rivermaya’s Live and Acoustic album (video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mUo_6HI4MU )
It has the words “Look out!” painted on a corner at the back

Throwback Thursday
Poster paint on cardboard, April 2007
It was the summer before college. I was a new at painting and new at writing with Baybayin. My script was illegible, and I never thought poster paint needed water. The paint was from whatever was left of my final group art project from high school. It became my favorite color scheme ever since.

I decided to make something over the weekend out of weeks of obsessing over Daft Punk’s new song Get Lucky. It’s free to download here, if you want it as a wallpaper.

The wallpaper is available in these sizes:

  • 1920 x 1080
  • 1366 x 768
  • 1280 x 720

If you want any modifications or have any requests, just send me an ask, or contact me through my email: hello@gabmadrid.com

Don’t forget to share the love!

Family Reunion for Kamusta? Magazine

Last December 2012, I was invited to contribute an illustration for Kamusta? Magazine by their Photography Editor, and my friend from high school, Joseph Angan. They were counting down to Christmas, and every day they would feature a photo or illustration that emphasizes a certain part of the Filipino Christmas. Mine is about (extended) family reunions every Christmas, and how you’re suddenly introduced to all these relatives you’ve never met before.

Bagong Taon, Lumang Problema (New Year, Old Problems)

Bagong Taon by Rivermaya (Video)
I did this last January; I was experimenting with Typography. I didn’t want it to be “just the font” applied on the poster so I uh.. broke the typeface? This poster was to be the first of a series of OPM (Original Pilipino Music)-themed posters. Also featuring my latest logo!

PROGRESS! Environment concepts! Setting is now Mt. Silver. Had to redo Emboar, previous iteration was too soft and fluid for my tastes. (Want it simpler, sturdier, more geometric.) Also, me! Will animate these next.

More Kapre design concepts. The Kapre is a creature of Philippine mythology, best describe as a tree demon or a tree troll. It looks much like the North American Bigfoot, but with more human characteristics. They are believed to be always smoking a large, trunk-like cigar. Read more about it here: http://en.wikipilipinas.org/index.php?title=Kapre
Attire is based on Igorot people, a collective term for the ethnic groups who are indigenous Austronesian inhabitants of provinces located in Noth Luzon, Philippines.

The word “Igorot” is archaic Tagalog for “mountain people”. It is derived from the prefix ‘i-’ (“dweller of”) and ‘golot’ (“mountain range”).

Sketch based on Rey Amio’s (http://www.reyamio.com/) Free Idea he posted on Facebook a few weeks back:

“Jose Rizal vs. malignos. His weapon: mystical Latin inscribed on parchment, delivered via crossbow. Sidearm: a double-barreled sawed-off flintlock.”

Not really sure how malignos are supposed to work, but here they’re like boogeymen, creatures made of solid shadows. Parchment is now out of the frame after being used, but causes malignos to disspate, much like smoke.
